Teaching, Passion, Purpose

A respected educator and program innovator, Jones has been twice recognized as Professor of the Year and is the recipient of the Cheryl Amana Award for Teaching Excellence from North Carolina Central University School of Law. She teaches across doctrinal, experiential, and interdisciplinary spaces, including contracts, public health law, trial practice, and health law special topics that incorporate technology, cybersecurity, data science, and privacy.  She is known for transforming classrooms into collaborative, practice-ready learning environments. Her “Train Eagles, Not Chickens” philosophy has become a guiding ethos for students seeking rigor, mentorship, and purpose in their legal training.

Jones also brings significant leadership experience. She served as co-director of the Social Justice & Racial Equity Institute, where she helped secure private grant funding and advanced a landmark Biden-era Memorandum of Agreement with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Her work supported initiatives addressing the intersection of housing, disability rights, and health equity, demonstrating her ability to build impactful partnerships and steward multi-institutional collaborations. She demonstrates interdisciplinary collaboration in her instruction and curriculum design of undergraduate courses in healthcare ethics, legal aspects, and risk management, shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals, nurses, and public health practitioners.

As an Emerging AI Faculty Leader, Jones contributes to NCCU’s university-wide strategy for technology integration and innovation, leveraging certifications in AI Governance, Data Science, Quality Matters instructional design, and online learning assessment to build future-ready educational infrastructures.

Jones’s work in health care arbitration and mediation informs her conviction that tomorrow’s health law advocates must be trained as skilled negotiators and problem-solvers. Jones believes that mediation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) are essential tools for resolving healthcare issues, such as payment disputes, technology-related errors, and complex conflicts between patients and providers, especially in a fast-changing, heavily regulated environment.

Her partnerships with private entities on grant-supported research involving artificial intelligence reflect a similar commitment. Through these partnerships, Jones examines how AI affects clinical decision-making, influences at-risk groups, and necessitates strict regulatory oversight. Her work underscores an urgent truth: effective healthcare advocacy now demands fluency in both dispute resolution and technology governance.

Across her career, Jones has represented municipalities, healthcare entities, and individual providers in matters involving Medicare and Medicaid compliance, Stark and Anti-Kickback enforcement, medical necessity audits, quality assurance, and administrative appeals. Her practice background grounds her research in real-world urgency and positions her as a trusted commentator on the complexities of U.S. health systems and the risks and promises of AI-driven care.
